Beginning July 1, 2025, Idaho’s State Board of Education can set rules for lifetime teaching and administrator certificates, subject to legislative approval. Certified teachers and administrators need at least 25 years of combined teaching and administration experience. Qualifying experience includes Idaho school districts, Idaho public charter schools, and equivalent public school systems elsewhere. Either type of experience counts toward either certificate. Lifetime certificates are free and require no ongoing reporting, maintenance, or professional development. They last for life unless professional misconduct warrants revocation.
