Name and pronoun protections for public workers

The law protects Louisiana state and local government employees, including job applicants. Employers cannot require workers to state pronouns that conflict with their sex. Employers also cannot require workers to use names other than their legal names or versions of them in official records or communications. Workers cannot be forced to address others using names outside that same rule, or pronouns, titles, or greetings that conflict with their sex. Workers are protected from job penalties for refusing those names or pronouns, declining to identify their own pronouns, or using sex-consistent pronouns. The law defines sex as immutable biological sex shown on the original birth certificate. Legal names are those on birth certificates, including lawful amendments. Employees can voluntarily agree on forms of address without employer pressure.
