Louisiana patients keep screening coverage for colonoscopies

Louisiana health plans must cover routine colorectal cancer screening that follows current medical guidelines. These are the latest American Cancer Society or National Comprehensive Cancer Network recommendations for age, family history, and screening frequency. A screening colonoscopy remains a screening service even when a polyp or other tissue is removed. A follow-up colonoscopy ordered by a provider because of screening findings also counts as routine screening when it follows those guidelines. Services the plan deems experimental or investigational remain excluded.
