More support services for pregnant children

Pregnant children age 17 or younger qualify for services from Louisiana's Department of Children and Family Services. Services include help coordinating medical care, counseling, case management, and protective supervision when warranted.

New child-protection rules for pregnant children

Louisiana's mandatory child-abuse reporters must report pregnancies involving children age 14 or younger to the Department of Children and Family Services. The department must begin a safety assessment when it receives such a report. Pregnancy in a child age 12 or younger is now grounds for alleging the child needs care. The pregnancy-specific service and assessment rules do not automatically require a court petition. They require no petition unless independent grounds exist under the law's child-in-need-of-care rules.
