Courtroom dog support for eligible witnesses

Louisiana law allows courts to permit an available facility dog to accompany eligible witnesses while they testify. Eligible witnesses are under 18, have a developmental disability, or testify in a sex-offense trial. The court must ensure the dog is trained and enters and leaves without the jury present. It must take precautions to hide the dog and can order it hidden from jurors at all times. The court can also explain the dog's role to jurors, on its own or at either side's request.
