Beginning January 1, 2027, Louisiana law limits harmful content from online services that contract with minors, including through account creation. These services cannot deliver or display legally defined material harmful to minors to those accounts if they helped create or develop it. The Louisiana attorney general can seek civil fines of up to $10,000 per violation. Before suing, the attorney general must send written notice identifying each alleged violation and explaining its basis. Services have 45 days after receiving notice to submit a written statement confirming a cure and promising no further violations. A timely cure blocks a lawsuit, but failure to cure or another violation after notice allows enforcement. If the attorney general wins a judgment or court order, the court must award reasonable attorney fees, court costs, and investigation costs. All collected fines and penalties fund consumer protection efforts or education; the law sets no fixed funding amount.
