Corrected retirement payments for assessors

The Assessors’ Retirement Fund board must correct benefit overpayments and underpayments caused by administrative errors. Underpayments must include interest when the error came from someone paid by the system to calculate benefits. Interest uses the system’s valuation interest rate. The board must recover overpayments over a reasonable number of months it sets, and may reduce corrected benefits to collect repayment. At least 30 days before a reduced payment, recipients must receive notice stating the overpayment, amount owed, and reduction amount and duration.
