Cameron Parish can offer homeowners insurance help

The law lets Cameron Parish create a program by local ordinance to help residents pay for homeowners’ and flood insurance. The ordinance must set management rules and decide which homeowners living in the parish qualify. The parish does not have to create the program, and the law sets no funding or benefit amounts. The parish can create an insurance fund by ordinance, add local money, and seek and accept voluntary contributions and grants. The parish can change or end the program under its ordinance. If the program ends, all remaining funds must go to the parish’s general fund.
