Bill Overview

Analyzed Economic Effects

3 provisions identified: 2 benefits, 1 costs, 0 mixed.

Pool reporters lose required state salary

The law removes the state's requirement to pay each Louisiana Supreme Court pool reporter a $15,000 annual salary. It also removes the court's requirement to budget for those salaries, related costs, and travel expenses. This does not establish whether payments continue under another authority.

Emergency reporters help Louisiana district courts

The law provides a pool of 30 emergency court reporters whom the Louisiana Supreme Court can employ or approve. The court can assign them to district courts as needs arise to help get appeal transcripts filed on time. Appointed emergency reporters must prepare and certify transcripts and charge for them under Supreme Court rules. They have official reporter authority for the district courts where they are assigned.

Tax appeals reporters gain official authority

The authorized stenographer-reporter for Louisiana's Board of Tax Appeals must prepare and certify transcripts and charge under board rules. The reporter has official reporter authority for the board, as though appointed by the district court where the board is based. The reporter is considered a certified digital reporter only while employed in that role.
