Louisiana sickle cell commission membership changes

The law sets seven Louisiana Sickle Cell Commission positions, appointed by the governor and subject to Senate confirmation. Two seats go to the Louisiana Department of Health secretary and Medicaid director, or their chosen representatives. Five seats go to executive directors of named sickle cell groups, or their chosen representatives. These groups are the Sickle Cell Association of South Louisiana; Northeast Louisiana Sickle Cell Anemia Technical Resource Foundation, Inc.; Sickle Cell Disease Association of America, Inc., Northwest Louisiana Chapter; Sickle Cell Anemia Research Foundation, Alexandria; and Southwest Louisiana Sickle Cell Anemia, Inc. Each group can serve only if its governing board includes at least one healthcare professional. The law repeals the former membership provisions. It does not create a direct household benefit or payment.
