Teachers gain personal days from sick leave

Louisiana parish and city school-board teachers qualify only if they do not receive annual leave. The law raises personal leave from two to four paid days per school year, for purposes the teacher chooses. Teachers must give their principal at least 24 hours’ notice. These days come from current-year or accumulated sick leave, leaving less sick leave available for illness. Personal leave cannot carry over between years or be paid out, including at death or retirement.
