3 provisions identified: 1 benefits, 1 costs, 1 mixed.
Louisiana school board members and parish or municipal governing body members get a disclosure exemption for qualifying employment before June 5, 2024. The employer must have had or sought a contract, business, or financial relationship with their government or an agency it oversees. These officials do not have to make the required employment disclosure for that earlier work. Employment on or after June 5, 2024, remains subject to disclosure requirements.
Louisiana statewide elected officials cannot receive pay for lobbying, consulting, or advising. The law bans these types of paid work.
Louisiana’s 2024 ethics rules on covered employment and disclosures apply to both past and future matters. Matters with a final decision from the Board of Ethics or Ethics Adjudicatory Board are excluded. That decision must have been issued on or before this law’s effective date.
