Less family disclosure for Louisiana officials

Immediate family members of appointed board or commission members are exempt from general financial and disaster or emergency contract disclosures. Board and commission members’ conflict certifications now cover only their own interests and relationships, not their immediate family’s. They certify that no such conflict affected their impartial performance of board or commission duties. Certain elected officials and board members no longer report loans from immediate family members on their financial statements. This exemption also applies when the family lender is a registered lobbyist or holds a state contract. Other covered debts remain reportable when the filer or spouse owes more than $10,000 on the reporting period’s last day. Separately, Act No. 190 of the 2024 Regular Session applies retroactively to January 1, 2023. The retroactivity provision does not describe that act’s underlying rules.
