Louisiana home inspector board gets new rules

The governor appoints Louisiana’s home inspector board, with one member from each congressional district and one statewide, at-large member. Active Louisiana-licensed inspectors living in a district with a vacancy can submit candidate names. Both the candidate and submitting inspector must have held a license for at least three years. Both must be in good standing, with no finding of a board-rule or licensing-law violation in the past three years. Board members must be U.S. citizens and Louisiana residents with three years of full-time home inspection work before appointment. Initial members must obtain a license; later members must already be licensed. Members serve four-year terms, with a lifetime limit of two terms, consecutive or not. At-large terms count, and a second consecutive term requires a formal nomination. The governor fills vacancies caused by death, resignation, or disability from the district where the vacancy occurred, for the remaining term. Interim vacancy service does not count toward the term limit. Neither does service after a term ends while awaiting the governor’s appointment of a replacement.
