New review option for Louisiana teacher applicants

Louisiana’s State Board of Elementary and Secondary Education can reverse a Teacher Certification Appeals Council denial. The board must find that circumstances beyond the applicant’s control caused the denial. It cannot grant certification that conflicts with state or federal law. The board can call a special meeting or give its president the power to reverse denials. When an applicant requests a reversal, the board or president must decide within 30 days of receiving the request. This option covers future denials and past denials from January 1, 2025, through the law’s effective date.
