In-network facilities gain protection from insurer penalties

Louisiana health insurers cannot cut claim payments or suspend or end contracts with licensed facilities in their networks solely because of another provider’s network status. The other provider must contribute to a patient’s care at the facility. Contracts cannot waive this protection, and terms that do so are void. Violations count as unfair insurance practices and are subject to insurance enforcement rules. The protection does not apply to the Louisiana Office of Group Benefits. The law takes effect upon the governor’s signature, the deadline for becoming law without signature, or the day after a veto override.
