Renters face later deposit accounting deadlines

Louisiana residential landlords have more time to explain why they keep any part of a lease advance or deposit. They must send an itemized statement within one month after tenancy ends or within 15 days after that one-month date. Renters must give a forwarding address when the lease ends. The separate deadline to return the amount owed stays one month after the lease ends. Landlords can keep only amounts reasonably needed to cover unmet lease duties or unreasonable wear to the home.
