Cash payments protected at Louisiana state stadiums

The law takes effect July 1, 2026, and covers purchases started on or after July 1, 2027. It covers stadiums owned by Louisiana or its state entities and normally used for sports or entertainment. These include the Louisiana Superdome, Smoothie King Center, and Louisiana State University's Tiger Stadium. Covered facilities must accept U.S. cash for purchases of goods, services, or property rights when customers are physically present. This requirement applies when the facility accepts another payment type for the same purchase. Facilities can instead provide an on-site kiosk that turns cash into a debit card loaded with the deposited amount. They cannot charge a fee or add another condition for accepting cash. The requirement excludes phone, mail, internet, and other electronic sales; parking; purchases over $5,000; denominations above $20; and suspected counterfeit cash.
