Interns and apprentices gain job freedom

Louisiana employers cannot use agreements to stop covered paid or unpaid interns or apprentices from taking similar jobs or running similar businesses. Agreements also cannot limit their job, education, or professional opportunities after the internship or apprenticeship ends. Covered interns must be student learners in internships authorized and regulated under LAC 28:CXV.3113 or replacement internship rules from the Board of Elementary and Secondary Education. Interns and apprentices remain bound by their employer’s confidentiality, intellectual property, and data protection agreements.
