New Louisiana Republican plates cost extra

The law creates an optional “Louisiana GOP” license plate for Louisiana citizens with passenger cars, pickup trucks, recreational vehicles, or vans. The state must have at least 1,000 applicants and update its registration system before offering the plate. Each plate carries a $25 annual fee plus a $3.50 handling fee, on top of the standard vehicle license tax. The annual fee goes to the Republican Party of Louisiana solely for its activities; the state keeps the handling fee for administrative costs. The secretary works with the party chair on the color and design, which must meet state plate design rules. The design must include “Louisiana GOP,” and the secretary must adopt rules to carry out the law.
