The Franklin Parish sheriff’s general fund pays qualifying retirees’ group hospital, surgical, medical, and life insurance premiums. All qualifying retirees must be eligible for Sheriff’s Pension and Relief Fund benefits. For Franklin Parish retirees who retired before December 31, 2012, it pays 100% under either service rule: age 55 or older with at least 24 years of full-time Franklin Parish service, or 30 continuous full-time years there at any age. For Franklin Parish retirees retiring on or after December 31, 2012, payments follow three tiers of full-time creditable service: 100% for 30 or more years at any age; 75% for at least 27 years at age 55 or older; or 50% for at least 23 years at age 55 or older. These retirees must have earned most of their creditable service with Franklin Parish. For retirements on or after January 1, 2025, eligibility also reaches retirees from any Louisiana sheriff’s office, the Louisiana Sheriff’s Association, or the Louisiana Sheriff’s Pension and Relief Fund. They must have earned most of their creditable service with Franklin Parish. For this expanded group, the fund pays 100% after 30 full-time creditable years with Franklin Parish at any age; 75% after at least 27 years there at age 55 or older; or 50% after at least 23 years there at age 55 or older. The Louisiana Sheriff’s Pension and Relief Fund determines which days count as full-time service.
