The law extends Louisiana’s Department of Veterans Affairs authority to charge for facility care to nonveteran residents, alongside veterans. The department can charge reasonable rates to residents able to pay for some or all of their care. It must set the charging system through rules that consider each resident’s income and estate. The law sets no specific rates.
