Louisiana makes knowingly using or threatening force, control, or intimidation to force a pregnant woman into an unwanted abortion a crime. This applies even when no abortion is attempted or completed. Covered acts include battery, assault, simple kidnapping, false imprisonment, and extortion. The coerced-abortion offense carries up to a $5,000 fine, five years in prison, or both. The law also expressly adds threats meant to force an abortion, and threats of any other harm, to extortion rules.
