New LSU championship plates with extra fees

The law creates the “2023 and 2025 LSU Fighting Tigers College World Series Champions” plate for Louisiana citizens with passenger cars, pickup trucks, recreational vehicles, motorcycles, or vans. Plates become available after at least 1,000 applicants apply, an LSU logo-use contract is signed, and the state’s registration system is updated. LSU and the state choose the design, and applicants must consent to sharing their name, address, and birth date with LSU. Plate holders pay $25 each year, plus the regular vehicle license tax and a $3.50 handling fee per plate; handling-fee timing is not specified. The state keeps the handling fee for administrative costs and sends the yearly fee to LSU as the applicant’s charitable donation, solely for academic or financial need-based scholarships.
