Bill Overview

Analyzed Economic Effects

2 provisions identified: 1 benefits, 1 costs, 0 mixed.

Vehicle owners get hearings before red-light booting

Outside Orleans Parish, no one can boot or otherwise immobilize a vehicle over an unpaid automated red-light ticket unless its owner has first been offered an administrative hearing on the ticket. This hearing protection does not apply in Orleans Parish. The rule does not cancel the ticket or guarantee the owner wins. Parishes and cities can also set stricter vehicle-booting rules than this state chapter requires.

Drivers face $250 fine for red-light passing

Louisiana drivers must pay a $250 fine for using a shoulder or turn lane to pass a vehicle stopped or slowing to stop at a red light. This fine applies when the violation causes no injury.
