Expanded property tax break for aircraft owners

For tax periods beginning on or after January 1, 2026, Louisiana exempts qualifying aircraft from personal property tax. The operating empty weight limit rises from under 6,000 pounds to under 7,000 pounds. Eligible owners now include limited liability companies as well as private individuals. Aircraft must be used in operations under federal Part 91 flight rules. This requirement replaces the prior ban on profit-making or commercial use in the exemption.
