More Louisiana high school license plates

The law provides special plates for Louisiana public, private, and parochial high schools with at least 100 applicants per school. Named schools include Acadiana, Lafayette, Carencro, Northside, Southside, David Thibodaux STEM Magnet Academy, Ovey Comeaux, Early College Academy, and Edward J. Sam Accelerated School of Lafayette. Plates are available for passenger cars, pickup trucks, vans, and recreational vehicles. Each school's student council chooses the color and design, with the principal's approval and within existing state design rules. The state must set implementation rules and create qualifying plates once its registration system is updated to support them.

New blackout plates with yearly fees

The law creates a blackout plate for Louisiana citizens, with white letters and numbers on black and “LOUISIANA” centered. The state creates it after at least 1,000 people apply and its registration system is updated to support it. Eligible vehicles are passenger cars, pickup trucks, recreational vehicles, motorcycles, and vans. You pay $25 each year plus a $3.50 handling fee per plate, on top of the standard vehicle license tax. The yearly fee goes to the Louisiana Fraternal Order of Police as your charitable donation; the state keeps the handling fee.
