Louisiana restricts cultured food after court ruling

The law covers animal tissue grown from animal cells outside the animal. The ban takes effect only upon a final U.S. Supreme Court ruling that bans on these products are constitutional. Once that condition is met, Louisiana bans making these foods for sale, selling, holding or offering them for sale, and distributing them. It also bans mixing them with meat products and offering those mixtures as food for people. Manufacturing, selling, offering for sale, or distributing these products also violates state meat-inspection rules. Accredited Louisiana colleges and universities may research these products regardless of whether the ruling occurs.
