New appointment rules for Louisiana special masters

The law covers complex Louisiana cases combined because they share factual questions. The cases must be consolidated under Louisiana Supreme Court rules and designated or approved under those rules. Trial courts appointing special masters must follow applicable judicial ethics rules and federal Rule 53 appointment and disqualification standards. These requirements apply except where they conflict with state law. Appointments must also follow Supreme Court rules and existing requirements in R.S. 13:4165(F)(2) and (6).
