Simpler hospital paternity paperwork for adult parents

Louisiana’s hospital-based paternity program lets parents who are both 18 or older acknowledge paternity without two witnesses. Both parents must sign, and a person authorized to notarize must authenticate their signatures. This acknowledgment has the same legal effect as an authentic act, a formally authenticated legal document, for state paternity records. Parents can use it to change or record their child’s paternity with the state registrar. Parents under 18 must establish paternity through other methods allowed by law.
