Aircraft owners protected from tracking-based charges

The law bans using automatic dependent surveillance-broadcast (ADS-B) tracking data to calculate, generate, or collect aircraft fees or taxes. This protects owners and operators of covered aircraft operating within Louisiana. Covered aircraft must have a maximum certificated takeoff weight of 12,499 pounds or less. They must also operate under 14 CFR 91 and 14 CFR 141. The department can fine violators up to $500 per occurrence. Airport authorities retain their other fee-setting powers, subject to rules against discrimination; other fees and taxes still apply.
