New advanced license rules for medical psychologists

Louisiana replaces the advanced-practice certificate with an advanced medical psychology license issued by the State Board of Medical Examiners. Applicants must hold a medical psychology license, have three years of practice, and have treated at least 100 patients with different psychiatric medicines. They need recommendations from the Medical Psychology Advisory Committee and two collaborating physicians familiar with their skills who hold unrestricted Louisiana medical licenses. Applicants also need at least 100 hours of continuing medical education on psychiatric medicines, counted starting when their medical psychology license is issued. The board can charge no more than $325 for the initial application and license, and $300 for annual renewal.
