Fines for restricted commercial menhaden fishing

Louisiana bans commercial menhaden taking in the area designated by its Department of Wildlife and Fisheries under LAC 76:VII.307. The rule covers people who knowingly and intentionally authorize or direct the taking, or own or control an involved agent or vessel. These penalties apply to individuals, not corporations or other entities. Covered individuals face strict liability for the taking. Fines are $2,500 for a first violation, $5,000 for a second, and $7,500 for a third.
