Nonprofits face limits on district board appointments

The law limits nonprofits authorized by state law to appoint economic development district commissioners in Louisiana. It covers districts in municipalities with more than 300,000 people, based on the latest federal decennial census. A nonprofit loses its appointment power after three consecutive years out of good standing with the Louisiana secretary of state. The loss lasts at least two years, even if the nonprofit regains good standing during that time.
