Starting with the tax year beginning January 1, 2026, Louisiana restores two donation checkoffs on individual income tax returns. Filers can give all or part of their refund to Holden’s Hope or the Louisiana Coalition Against Domestic Violence. Giving is voluntary and reduces your refund by the amount donated; it does not change your tax bill. The Department of Revenue handles and sends the donations to each charity. Each checkoff must be removed if that charity receives under $5,000 annually for two consecutive years, down from $10,000. Holden’s Hope’s checkoff also applies to tax years beginning on or after January 1, 2023. Donations cannot be invalidated just because they lack an “authentic act,” a formal legal document.
