Louisiana public service department renewed until 2031

The law re-creates Louisiana’s Department of Public Service and its legally assigned entities effective June 30, 2026. The wind-down schedule includes July 1, 2030, with each entity’s legal authority ending the following July 1. All authority ends by July 1, 2031, unless renewed earlier through Louisiana’s existing legal process. The law overrides conflicting provisions of R.S. 49:193 and repeals R.S. 49:191(1)(b). For a veto override, the effective date is June 30, 2026, or the day after legislative approval, whichever is later. The law itself adds no funding and makes no direct changes to household taxes, benefits, fees, or services.
