Louisiana lawmakers pay annual special plate fees

Current and retired Louisiana lawmakers pay $25 per special plate each year, replacing the former one-time $25 fee. They also pay the standard vehicle license tax and a $3.50 per-plate handling fee. The Department of Public Safety and Corrections keeps handling fees for administrative costs. It sends annual fees to the Division of Administration for deposit in the state treasury, dedicated to restoring Pentagon Barracks. Effective upon enactment, the law requires department rules on plate design and transferring or disposing of plates after recipients die.
