New insurance proof rules for rideshare drivers

Beginning August 1, 2026, Louisiana rideshare drivers must carry paper or digital proof of insurance that meets state rideshare requirements. This applies whenever they use a vehicle in connection with their rideshare company’s app. After a crash, drivers must share coverage details when directly interested parties, auto insurers, or investigating police officers ask. They must also tell those requesters whether they were logged into the app or on a prearranged ride when the crash happened. Failure to follow these rules subjects drivers to state penalties and enforcement; this law does not specify a penalty amount.
