Louisiana can take on federal transportation duties

Beginning August 1, 2026, Louisiana's transportation department may make agreements to handle federal duties under 23 U.S.C. 326 and 327. The department may adopt rules to carry out those agreements. Louisiana allows federal-court lawsuits about those duties only as federal law requires, without adding liability beyond federal law. The department may also accept federal money and spend it for any transportation purpose. The law sets no funding amount, guarantees no funding, and creates no direct household payment.
