New congressional districts for Louisiana voters

The law sets Louisiana’s six congressional districts, where voters in each district elect one U.S. representative. It lists the precincts using the official “2026 Precinct Shapefiles (1-27-2026),” based on 2020 Census maps. Splitting a precinct includes all its subdivisions under its original designation; later precinct changes do not move congressional boundaries. The boundaries remain until changed by law. The map applies upon enactment only for candidate qualifying and the regularly scheduled 2026 U.S. House election. It takes full effect at noon on January 3, 2027, when the prior district law is repealed. Elections or appointments to fill House seats after January 3, 2027, use the new districts. Current officeholders keep the rest of their terms. The law does not change household taxes, benefits, or costs.
