More officials qualify for special plates

The law expands special plate access to Louisiana Supreme Court members and also allows Louisiana members of Congress to apply. A clerk of court can request plates in writing for official vehicles used by duly commissioned officers performing official duties. Eligible vehicles are cars, pickup trucks, motorcycles, recreational vehicles, and vans. The department must set rules for plate design, issuance, transfers, and what happens when a recipient dies. Fees follow the existing state fee framework.

New military plate with spouse transfer limits

Louisiana creates a “Master Combat Infantryman” plate for cars, pickup trucks, recreational vehicles, motorcycles, and vans. Applicants must have the Combat Infantryman Badge plus an Expert Infantryman, Expert Field Medical, or Expert Soldier Badge. Fees follow existing state fee laws; the act does not list a dollar amount. The light blue and gold plate shows the Master Combat Infantryman Badge on the left and its name below the number. The Office of Motor Vehicles must update its electronic vehicle and title registration system before creating the plate. A surviving spouse who has not remarried can apply to the secretary to transfer the plate. The plate must be returned when that spouse dies or remarries.
