Analyzed Economic Effects

2 provisions identified: 0 benefits, 2 costs, 0 mixed.

Limits on unattended highway shoulder parking

Beginning August 1, 2026, Louisiana prohibits stopping, parking, or leaving an unattended vehicle on a highway shoulder. Stops made necessary by an emergency are exempt. Other existing legal exceptions also apply.

State Police filings for driverless commercial vehicles

Beginning August 1, 2026, Louisiana has sole authority over autonomous commercial vehicles and automated driving systems. The state transportation department and State Police carry out these rules. Before autonomous or remotely driven commercial vehicles operate without a conventional driver in the cab, a written compliance statement is required. The statement certifies that the vehicle meets state requirements and goes to State Police, rather than the transportation department. For remotely driven vehicles, the owner, remote driver, or remote driver's employer must submit it.
