Louisiana's vital records registry and state registrar can scan and electronically store originals supporting vital-record applications or verifying registry information. They can then return originals to the submitter. Stored scans have the same authenticity as physical originals. These offices can issue certified copies of documents in their custody on paper or electronically, including documents used as evidence. The law takes effect upon the governor's signature or the deadline for becoming law without signature; after a veto override, it takes effect the next day.
