The law requires eligible Louisiana health plans to cover certain dental services for people diagnosed with cancer and scheduled for treatment. Covered services include medically necessary evaluations, imaging, clinical exams, and tooth extractions as part of required checks before cancer treatment. These services must reduce infection risk, remove infection, or treat tooth loss or decay. The mandate does not require routine preventive dental care, including cleanings and sealants. It excludes excepted-benefit plans, limited-benefit health plans, and short-term policies lasting less than 12 months. New policies issued on or after January 1, 2027, must comply. Existing policies must comply by their renewal date, no later than January 1, 2028.
