Child sexual abuse victims can speak

Louisiana law bars anyone from enforcing or trying to enforce contract clauses that silence victims or alleged victims of sexual abuse. This protection covers abuse that happened when the person was under 18, including disclosure of related facts. Others can share related facts when their disclosures support or are consistent with the victim’s right to speak. Covered abuse includes sexual crimes and sexual conduct defined as abuse under state child protection law, without requiring criminal charges or convictions. Agreements can still keep settlement amounts or payment terms private, but cannot block protected disclosures. These rules apply to agreements made before, on, or after the law’s effective date.
