Anglers can keep more on multiday trips

Beginning August 1, 2026, licensed Louisiana recreational anglers can possess up to three times the daily limit of certain fish. This covers largemouth bass, spotted bass, red drum and spotted sea trout caught south of U.S. Highway 90. Anglers must satisfy the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries that they spent at least two days on the water or at a remote camp reachable only by water. For bass, they must show a landing receipt from a public boat launch south of U.S. Highway 90. Red drum and spotted sea trout no longer require a landing receipt. Separate labeled bags are no longer required. Fish must remain whole or whole gutted, and only the person who caught them may possess them. The existing ban on actively fishing while possessing more than the daily limit remains.
