More election workers at Louisiana precincts

Beginning August 1, 2026, Louisiana requires more election commissioners at precincts for specified elections. Precincts with more than 300 active registered voters must have four commissioners besides the commissioner-in-charge. Those with 300 or fewer must have three besides the commissioner-in-charge. This staffing level covers governor and congressional primaries and general elections, the presidential preference primary, and party primary office elections. It also covers fall general elections held on the sixth Saturday after the first Tuesday after the first Monday in November of a congressional election year. It covers municipal officer primaries and general elections held every four years beginning in 1994, in parishes containing a municipality with at least 475,000 people. For other elections outside these categories and Part III of Chapter 6 of Louisiana’s election code, staffing depends on active registered voters eligible to vote. Those precincts need three commissioners when more than 300 voters qualify, or two when 300 or fewer qualify, besides the commissioner-in-charge. The law specifies no funding amount.
