City court officers gain retirement access

The law adds city court marshals and constables as participating employers in Louisiana’s Municipal Employees’ Retirement System (MERS). They must not otherwise qualify for another local, state, or statewide retirement system. This includes eligible officers of New Orleans’ Second City Court. The law does not set a retirement payment amount. It takes effect upon the governor’s signature or the deadline for becoming law without signature. Following a veto override, it takes effect the next day.
