Beginning August 1, 2026, Louisiana's health department must review Medicaid care for people with chronic or rare kidney disease annually. It checks whether covered medicines, treatments, and services meet patients' needs and whether to seek additions. It must seek and consider public input, especially from people and groups with kidney disease knowledge or experience. It must also seek partnerships with Louisiana groups that represent or serve these patients to improve education, awareness, and screening. These efforts can use new or existing programs, such as Well-Ahead Louisiana. By July 1, 2027, and each July 1 afterward, it must report findings and recommendations to legislative leaders, both health committees, and the David R. Poynter Legislative Research Library. Reports must also be publicly accessible on its website. The law does not guarantee added Medicaid coverage or new screening services.
