New recreational alligator hunting with limits

Louisiana’s Wildlife Commission can create a recreational alligator hunting season separate from the commercial season; the law sets no season dates. It can set seasons by area, harvest quotas, tag limits, residency rules, hunting methods, and hunting hours. It can also extend, shorten, or stop recreational hunting in any area. The commission can exempt recreationally harvested alligators from existing licensing and harvest requirements under Louisiana law. Recreational hunters still must have valid basic hunting and alligator hunting licenses, plus recreational harvest tags from the wildlife department. Hunting outside the special season, without valid licenses or tags, or using illegal methods is a class three violation. The law does not state license or tag costs.
